Gunsmoke







Although we did go out hunting on our last trip out to ND, I never actually held or fired a gun- we just walked behind the gun-holders. On this trip, Corey decided I needed to discharge a firearm myself. Family friends the Bekkens generously offered to help us with this challenge- son Scott has quite a gun collection, so we piled into the station wagon (this time Judge Bekken didn't have to ride in the hatch) and drove out to some fields on the edge of town to get our shoot on. It wasn't quite as scary as I had imagined, and the smaller rifles were pretty fun to shoot- though I didn't actually hit anything till my very last shot. Hardest shot was a deer rifle with a scope- the kickback knocked my sunglasses right off of my face! I was also deaf for nearly a minute after the discharge.
